Ontario boasts the highest tuition fees

Ontario has taken the cake for possessing the highest tuition costs in the country. A 2009 Statistics Canada report shows Ontario has surpassed Nova Scotia, with university tuition averaging $5,951 per student. Furthermore, the report found undergraduate fees in Ontario surpassed the national average by more than $1,000. Graduate tuition fees further exceeded the national average by $2,600.

These tuition rates, paired with an all time high youth unemployment rate this past summer have left some students budgeting on next to nothing. A recent study shows that most University students will only have enough money to last them until Christmas.

So far more than 80,000 students have complained and are disgusted with the Premier's continual tuition hikes.

That being said, we need to compare our cost of education to other parts of the world. By a global standard, the high level of education within this country is highly affordable in comparison to that of the United States and Europe.

Needless to say, Canadians are still falling further into debt and are feeling the pressures of increased tuition.

College and university students from across Ontario are invited to rally outside the legislature Nov. 5 to protest high tuition fees.

Disagree with having to pay the most tuition in the country? Send the Premier an e-mail at the link below:

  1. i totally understand, but like you said....if you look at the people in the states, theres countless amounts of them who are 70, 80, 90.....$100,000 in debt, if not more.

  2. Compare Canada to USA is not exactly fair, look at the European countries, many of them don't even charge tuition. Why should receiving education hindered by financial means? I support Canada, specifically Ontario, should lower the tuition rate.
