Drunken Germans and University students alike, rejoice. Oktoberfest is back once more in Kitchener/Waterloo. The annual nine day festival is finishing up this coming weekend. With students from both Wilfrid Laurier and Waterloo University able to attend, this weekend is bound to be nothing short of epic. The copious amounts of beer, sausage and partying will be at an all time high - more so than the average Mennonite wedding that normally takes place in K/W.
The place to be this year for the festivities is Bingeman's park. The park will play host to a number of events including boxing matches, Much Music dance parties, and the headliner of bands, Thornley and Crash Karma. The North American frat-like takeover of Oktoberfest will be balanced out by some traditional, cultural events. A Bavarian feast will be offered, accompanied by Romero's Polka band, and full yoddeling and cowbell performances. In addition, the city of Kitchener and Waterloo will play host to more than 40 events over the week.

So far there has not been much coverage on any of the arrests or fines laid in the Waterloo Chronicle or The Kitchener Record daily newspapers. Perhaps there keeping things clean and maintained in K/W? Or perhaps the majority of University students going home last weekend for Thanksgiving had something to do with it. This weekend, paired with two universities and an abundance of booze is bound to spell out tickets, fines and arrests. Needless to say, I will be attending the festivities for the first time and will report back on the antics of Oktoberfest!
Get excited.
