Guelph Football player Justin Dunk could use some media training (or at least a lesson in sportsmanship).
The Gryphon Quarter Back was caught yelling "F*** Western" in front of The Score's cameraman during Saturday's game against the Western Mustangs. Since the incident, Dunk has been suspended for next Saturday's game against Waterloo.
Tom Kendall, The Athletic Director for Guelph issued this statement early this afternoon:
"I have spoken about this with Justin. He is one of the top quarterbacks in the country, but we both agree that his actions Saturday do not reflect the high standards required of all Gryphon athletes."
Dunk has also apologized to Western for his actions.
This is not the first incident surrounding chauvinistic behavior with Mr. Dunk. In Guelph's opening game against Queens, Dunk was caught hopping onto a bench to wave his arms at fans after a game tying touchdown.
As controversial as this may be, its not the first time we've seen eccentric behavior in sports. If anything, this will most likely help draw a larger audience to the University football league, with Guelph in particular. With the season just kicking off, I'm sure we can see more dunk-like behavior breaking onto the scene in the coming weeks.
